CLA Trivia Night – January 28

Do you know stuff?

The CLA Dalhousie Executive is excited to invite everyone to attend a trivia night on Wednesday, January 28th, held in the Games Room at the University Club, located at 1 Alumni Crescent. Doors will open at 5:30pm, and at 6:00pm we will begin the first round of trivia.

There will be food available for purchase at the Club (check out the menu) and some especially sweet prizes to win, so be sure to come prepared to think and eat!

(Apparently someone is bringing 7-layer dip so…  it’s officially a party!)

You can vote for which film we’ll be screening – just indicate your choice on the sign-up sheet in the Common Room.

We can all bring snacks and soda to share, and/or chip in to order pizza!

Please join us for the 2015 Dalhousie Horrocks National Leadership Lecture, proudly presented by SIM & Halifax Public Libraries.

This year’s lecture is entitled “Through the Looking Glass: Reflections on Leadership, Resilience and Relationships,” by Linda Cook, CEO of Edmonton Public Library. In her career, Linda Cook has shown outstanding leadership and has garnered national recognition for her work at EPL, which won the Library of the Year Award in 2014.

The Dalhousie Horrocks National Leadership Award will also be presented to SIM’s own Dominique Taylor.

CV or Resume? – Considering an Academic Career

If you have an interest in academic librarianship or are planning an international job search, this workshop is relevant to you! After reviewing the differences between a resume and a CV, time will be spent on discussing the various sections you should have on your CV, as well as reviewing some formatting techniques for the document. If time allows, a few sample CVs will be shown and briefly discussed.

How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Everything About Academic Libraries

Join IM Subject Library Lindsay McNiff for the first Academic Support workshop of the term on Tuesday, January 20, from 1:00 – 2:30 in Rowe 4001. The topic, “How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Everything about Academic Libraries,” will include valuable career advice, including information about health sciences librarianship and working temporary contracts.

Guest speakers include Robin Parker and Melissa Helwig from the Kellogg Health Sciences Library.
