The Canadian Library Association is the national association that represents those who work in or advocate for Canada's estimated 21,000 libraries. CLA members work in college, university, public, special (corporate, non-profit and government) and school libraries. Members also sit on boards of public libraries, work for companies that provide goods and services to libraries, or are students in graduate level or community college programs. We encourage you to visit the official CLA website.
The CLA Student Chapter at Dalhousie is your link to all the services, advocacy efforts and networking opportunities that CLA has to offer.
The chapter runs a Professional Partnering Program that matches, Dalhousie's School of Information Management (SIM) students with professionals in Nova Scotia. Professional Partnering gives students the opportunity to meet people working in various information management settings and learn about future careers through informal interactions with their partner. Participating students say that the pairings enrich their experience at SIM. It is a valuable networking opportunity for both students and professionals.
Our chapter plays an active role in the Atlantic Canadian community of information professionals through sponsorship, or co-sponsorship, of events ranging from trivia nights to visits from the President of the CLA. The CLA Student chapter at Dal works in concert with the Halifax Library Association, the Atlantic Provinces Library Association, the Canadian Association of Special Libraries and Information Services (Atlantic), and others to present fun and informative events throughout the year.
