Resources for Students

Personal Wellness

As empowered as we are as pending information professionals, sometimes we just don’t want to take the time to look for resources or sometimes or we don’t know that we need to help until it is offered. So here is a list of resources both on and off campus:

Dalhousie counselling services

Personal counselling is an opportunity to resolve problems, improve understanding and learn new skills. It provides a supportive and confidential environment where you can talk openly about your concerns and feelings.

Appointments can only be made by dropping into Counselling Services 2nd floor, LeMarchant Mixed-Use Building, or by calling (902) 494-2081.

Peer Support

The mission of the Peer-Support Mental Health Group is to foster well-being at Dalhousie University through a community of mental health allies who provide peer-support services, raise awareness about mental health on campus, and stand against the stigma surrounding mental disorders and mental illness.

Laura Burke, the Mental Health Peer Support Coordinator, has a desk in the front entry way of the DSU offices.  She can be reached at (902) 718-7158 at any time during the day, or at dsupeer@dal.ca.

South House

We are a trans-and queer-positive space and are proud to offer a wheelchair accessible space. We offer a resource centre, library, and free meeting space for woman-positive and anti-oppression organizing and gathering.

Though they cannot offer crisis counseling, they are able to refer people to organizations that are able to help in crisis situations. South House is a gender-inclusive “safe space” and home-away-from home for all students, staff and faculty of the Dalhousie/King’s community as well as the Halifax community.
